Royal Kona Resort: The Royal Kona Resort features a natural salt-water swimming lagoon and sandy sunning area, in addition to a split-level freshwater pool and children's pool. The resort features four tennis courts, the Lotus Center Massage and Spa and on-property shops. Brimming with the cheerful, hospitable aloha spirit that characterized Hawaii's appeal when the resort was built in 1967, the Royal Kona Resort preserves an easygoing, friendly charm. The Hawaii resort also includes shops, a health spa, various sunning areas, and an activity desk.

A breezy lobby area has whirring ceiling fans and boisterous macaws. Budget-minded travelers return annually for fun and relaxation. The 452 air-conditioned rooms display classic Hawaiian style, with sea-blue rugs and warm-wood furniture. Each room provides a patio or balcony for fresh-air views. This resort offers an ocean-view sundeck with separate children's pool; luaus are held three times a week in an oceanfront coconut grove. This resort is within walking distance of Kailua-Kona's shopping, dining, and recreational attractions; on site is a natural calm-water beach cove for swimming and snorkeling. The Lotus Center Spa, a full-service massage-and-health center, also offers chiropractic care and acupuncture.

Amenity highlights: On the oceanfront is a swimming pool, a small children's pool, and a good-sized sundeck. On its southern edge, the resort created a pocket-sized sand beach behind a lava-rock retaining wall that faces a natural, calm-water cove for swimming and snorkeling.
Because Royal Kona Resort guests love luaus, three are held weekly in a coconut grove on the oceanfront. Dining is also available at Don the Beachcomber Restaurant and Mai Tai Bar.

Guests can experience oceanfront dining and entertainment at the acclaimed Don the Beachcomber Restaurant and Tiki Bar. Pacific Rim cuisine highlights include prime rib, seafood selections and the restaurant's signature dish, Huli Huli chicken prepared in the exhibition-style kitchen. Royal Kona Resort's popular seaside Luau is served in a scenic coconut grove on selected weekdays. Guests may stay in touch while traveling via complimentary wireless Internet access.

Don the Beachcomber Restaurant - Oceanfront, open-air setting that serves Pacific Rim cuisine. Included on the menu are prime rib, seafood selections, and their signature Huli Huli chicken, which guests may watch as they’re prepared in the exhibition-show kitchen. Daily breakfast and dinner. For hotel guests only, children ages 11 and younger eat free with a paying adult.
Don the Beachcomber's Mai Tai Bar - Located adjacent to the restaurant, this bar serves lunch, island-style appetizers, and cocktails. Open from late morning until late evening.

Luau - In the resort's coconut grove, luaus take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

In 1812, King Kamehameha established his summer residence in this area after unifying the Hawaiian Islands and returning to his homeland. Next to the Kona Pier in the center of Kailua-Kona are replicas of his thatched- roof home and temple, with signs that explain their significance.

Exit the airport and turn right on Highway 19 (Queen Kaahumanu Highway).
Follow the highway south for eight miles.
Turn right on Palani Drive into Kailua-Kona.
At the bottom of the hill, follow Alii Drive one-half mile.
Turn right into the Royal Kona Resort.
The distance is 8 miles.
